There are many things I love about the Italian summer.
Al fresco dining, trips to the beach, and seeing my
lovely little town bathed in glorious sunshine.
But there's something else that I (literally) just can't get enough of, even as the summer is coming to an end (boo!) and that's gelato.
Gorgeous, glorious, gluttonous gelato. I've always been a fan of ice cream, but the
real gelato experience is something else entirely. Creamy, smooth, flavoursome and absolutely delicious.
It costs about €1.30 for a cone or a cup in my town. I like to 'control' my portions by often going for the cup, but I eat it so often that it's really quite pointless.

And the choice is definitely not limited to your standard strawberry, chocolate, vanilla and nut. Oh no. As well as the usual, there are also flavours like melon, peach, pistachio and nutella (the latter of which is unbelievably good but oh-so-rich).

Chocolate is still one of my favourites however, even though it's a traditional flavour and not so exciting as the others. 'Bacio' (bottom photo, far left) is a chocolatey with lots of yummy hazelnuts, and on the far right, is one of my other favourites, 'Magnum Mandorle'. Chocolatey, almondy and just plain awesome. It's the great big chunks of chocolate in it that really do it for me.
If chocolate based ice cream isn't what you go for, then you could try these instead:

The last one is literally translated as 'English soup'. Doesn't sound too good does it? Well, it
is a little odd. The best description I can come up with, is that it's quite like trifle. Give it a go!

Zuppa Inglese is exactly what the Italians call Trifle and don't worry Amy they eat ice cream all year. :)

DeleteThose chocolate flavours look so gooey and yummy (esp. the middle one! Like pure nutella!!!) I haven't seen the magnum one before. I once saw a kinder hippo one though which had little heads and feet sticking out! Hope your first days at work at not too stressy & you can bask in the newness of your notebooks x x
ReplyDeleteThe nutella one is incredible- but soooo rich! You can eat a spoonful and then you're done! The hippo one sounds yummy (and cute). First days of work have been fine and I've already had compliments on the folders! Hope work is going well for you too..when you get new stationary- show me! :D X
DeleteYour nutella comment reminded me of a panzerotti I had here in Bologna. It's basically a HUGE pasty filled to excess with nutella. I had two bites and had to share the rest with four friends. I was incredible but crazy big! I'm still on the hunt for some good stationary. I need a small pencilcase. x x (just looked it up on wiki and it seems like these pastie are native to your part of the world - have you seen one? If you do have one, invite all your friends around for a nutella feast!!!)
